Our motorhome is a 1999 Ford Transit diesel and is rated 4. Not clean enough for a diesel van for C and D class zones. We can of course pay a charge and enter.
Scotland has zones in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. 30 pounds per day.
England, London, anywhere inside the M25, 12.5 pounds per day + the other London vehicle charges, Portsmouth is ok for us to enter, Birmingham (8 GBP), Bristol, Bath, Bradford (all 9 GBP), Sheffield (10 GBP) and Newcastle/Gateshead (12.50 GBP) .
Google Maps is completely useless at avoiding CAZ zones but Waze can do it but it only gives a warning that the route goes through a CAZ and offers an alternative route that doesn’t. Sometimes it is simply easier to pay the charge especially if you want to go into the city. Park up outside the zone, bus in and out? That is what they want you to do.
More info and payments are at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-a-clean-air-zone
To pay after, or before, you go into a CAZ you go to the page above, enter the vehicle registration, after choosing between UK or non UK registered, and click on the CAZ you want to pay for. If you have outstanding charges it should show up.
